Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader's bank accounts frozen

Obaidul Quader, the General Secretary of Awami League and former Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, has had his bank accounts frozen.

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) issued an order on Tuesday instructing banks and financial institutions nationwide to suspend transactions in any accounts held by him or his private enterprises for 30 days under the Anti-Money Laundering Act. The directive also includes restrictions on the use of any lockers he may have. Quader has held the position of Awami League's General Secretary since October 2016 and served as Minister of Road Transport and Bridges until August 5, just before the change in government. He was also previously the president of Chhatra League and a Member of Parliament for the Noakhali-5 constituency.
